Good to see you're having a go. Tracing is a real pain to get looking smooth. Play with how you apply the pencil and you'll find you can make a 'fur like' effect that will help define body shapes too.
For uploading to the internet, resize your images to fit onto typically a 1024x768 screen - I know most people run higher resolution than that these days, but for the sort of things we're uploading, it will be heaps of resolution.
