A mad uncle of mine actually looked at taking a commission from Singapore (a notorious region for pirates in days of old and modern!) to be a pirate hunter. On inspecting the two interceptor boats he was being offered, it became quite apparent why the previous operators had resigned. Both boats had knackered engines and looked much like floating sieves, proving they had been engaging their fair share of pirates. If your ship can be passed by a toddler wearing floaties and has as much bullet resistance as a fly screen door, you haven't got much hope against pirates...
One of the smarter things he's done was to decline the commission. Let's face it, most pirates have
kalashnikovs and rocket launchers these days as opposed to musket pistols and canons...
