I got short-changed - we were over in the USA for most of October, but flew out on the 30th, so got see lots of the decorations, but missed out on going to any of the parties. By the time we landed back in Australia, hadn't been to bed for ~36 hours (got a few hours doze on the 14 hour plane flight from San Francisco to Melbourne, Australia), but still pretty wrecked on arrival. Oz just doesn't really do the halloween thing; certainly not like the USA.
Anyone else see some of the cool "mouth mover" masks? Usually animals (tigers, etc) that fitted like a fur suit head and the mouth moves when you talk! So many cool gimmicks and toys for halloween at Walmart and lots of other retailers. Brought back a "black cat solar waver" - a black cat that rocks its head from side to side and blinks its eyes, powered by a solar panel; $2.98 at Walmart - thanks for coming!
One of the Genus - Spotlight on Skunkworks has the skunk sisters trick-or-treating - seriously funny stuff. Hope the collected books do come out, as I'm looking forward to some more great JMH humour. I have several of the Genus with Skunkworks, but am still missing a few of the published comics.
I did bring back some candy - the hotel I stayed in last had a jack-o-latern bowl on the lobby counter, so I got a few tootsie rolls and dum-dum lollipops (neither of which you can get in Oz). Certainly didn't need any rocks, as all bags were absolutely pushing the weight limits!
Scrapper, Black Dragon, 4700 miles across North-West USA in three weeks in a Dodge Charger - and we had a great time.
PS - USA fuel prices are quite cheap compared to Australia - worst pricing I saw in the USA was $3.55/gallon for standard, where as Australia we are _typically_ around $4.50/gallon (can go up to $8.50 in outback remote areas), where as New Zealand, cheap fuel starts at $7.00/gallon and quite often goes up to almost $9/gallon. Which explains why New Zealanders mostly have small cars! S,BD.
