From what I've seen recently they're in the testing stages on humans of a means of restoring the insulin-producing cells to a person, they infuse them into the liver and the clinical trials are looking promising.

Thanks for the info, man. Unfortunately, I'm Type 1. My pancreas
stopped working when I was 3 1/2. But, there is a new type of
insulin out now for Type 1 diabetics, which I will certainly be
looking at. It doesn't have peaks and valleys like the standard NPH
that I use now.
