Indeed. The appropriate quote is: "[In Japan] nakedness is often seen,
but never looked at." While nudity in the presence of others is not
uncommon, it is not remarked on, and simply forgotten quickly. As an
American example, when is the last time that you saw someone wipe their
nose on their sleeve, and actually paid attention to it? If you are
acculturated to a particular behavior, then it becomes completely
unremarkable.
