Well, I think here are some mistakes. So I well help you. The
christchild symbolizes the child Jesus. The giving away presents
symbolizes how much the person is special to someone, like for the 3
kings Jesus was special to them. Why we celebrate on 6th January the
3 holy kings, don't ask me. I guess its some kind of belated
birthday, since those 3 had no sense of direction and it took a while
till they found Jesus.
As for Santa Claus from the US, he is a Coca-Cola invention, I have
heard, and has nothing to do with St. Nikolaus, who was a merchant
who gave away presents to the poor. So giving away lil sweets on 6th
december we say thanks to the man who helped alot of poor in that
older time. After all, that was not that much in common those days.

If I am not mistaken he became later a bishop.
The best thing are the spekulatius. those are some kind of cookies.
Why are they called that way? Well, spekulatius comes from the term
spekulare. Yep. It means watching. So it became something the parents
invented. So, they knew that they were watched all the time, the got
those spekulatius, to remind them to be nice the next year aswell.
After all, cookies were very special at those times aswell. Something
you only got during special times.

if there are more questions, ask your local priest. Only he is more
right then I am.
Oh, and for those who are naughty get spankings. But I guess that one
or two of the skunksisters don't mind that.
