Actually, her species' diet consists mainly of sugars. In their
native habitat, they farm and eat lots of sweet fruits and
vegetables. Their biology is different from, say, Des's, or youra and
mine. We require combinations of proteins, sugars, and other minerals
and nutrients in our diets, but Onika's people subsist primarily on
sugars.
As a related example of their differences, a creature the size of
Onika (even in the Skunkworks world, let aone ours) would weigh about
50 pounds, give or take a few pounds. Onika, at 3' 9" (a foot and
three inches shorter than Desiree), weighs about 90 pounds. Different
biology indeed!
