I guess providing they taste okay and are chemically
compatable (ie, eating some meats exposes humans in
particular to more chance of contracting certain diseases),
then why not?

Disturbingly, if you read into the research of soy, it is
far from a substitute and is not actually good for you - it
is just 'less bad' than some animal products. Lots of
marketing hype - it is a condiment at best, as it was
traditionally used. What they do to process soy to make it
palettable makes it one of the most processed things we
eat! Many of the processes are highly toxic and large
quantities of unprocessed soy are downright poisonous. Also
affects your hormone levels, not necessarily in a
beneficial way - definitely not good for young children.
Okay, so I'm anti-soy. See:

Or you could just use replicator technology to produce
nutrious food without having to grow it?

See the TV series Logan's Run. Also when creatures die of
natural causes, they tend to not be in the best of health.
Yes, predators prey on the sick and the weak, but unless
your system is tuned to run on that sort of intake, you are
likely to end up sick yourself.

Using the mathematical definition - it is what most things
are doing. Normal tends to move as the majority accepts
it, hence why propaganda can cause wars to be viewed as
'right' and acceptable, though when viewed on the facts,
usually very dubious.
I suppose if I ask the Chakats what they do on Chakona,
that may give an insight into a furturistic world populated
by humans and furries that has been established for quite a
few years. I think the Star Trek community just rely on
replicators...
Scrapper, Black Dragon, high up in the food chain.
