I have worked with authors developing technology for various races before
and often sit around looking at our own devices and thinking of things like
this. So let me wade in with some thoughts on this. First thing I will
tackle is the vacuum, which one hopes many are familiar with. The attachment
of a “comb brush” would solve lots. Think of a hard toothed brush with a
space between the teeth to rake up the fur and then with a wedge lifting
system inside the vacuum to remove the fur form the teeth and deposit it
inside the vacuum in a chamber meant for it.
Pools and bath tubs come up with a new filtering system . Tubs could have a
sort of basket in the drain that could be lifted out and the fur clump
removed into a common bathroom trash receptacle. Pools could use a filtering
system that perhaps uses a filter band that slowly advances to a system
that clean the filter and then rotates it back down to the filtering system
in a continuous fashion. I have thought about this for real pools as I have
at times had to change filters for people who never think about things like
cleaning pools or changing oil in their car.
On the subject of water. We have a solution on that already out there but
people in general have to get over their mental issues to take hold of it.
SPECIALY if you want to go to space. It is called Recycling. We already
recycle water to a point that the reclaimed water is often cleaner then the
water coming out of your tap to drink but people are often obsessed about it
once being poo water and not that it is clean and pure now. It is amazing
how much a thing like a simple mind set can bring about glorious things or
stop progress indefinitely.

I have considered the problem - also the amount of water
required (we are currently on drought-water restrictions in
Australia) to wash that amount of fur. The other problem
is what all the loose fur does to the drain, swimming pool
filter or even just the vacuum cleaner! Those with pets
know what I'm talking about - can you imagine the number of
people in your house all being long-furred anthros?
Vacuuming would need to be a daily exercise!
That leads to imagine what some 'manky' furs would be like?
We've all met guys who we are sure haven't showered in
weeks - can you imagine how foul that would look, let alone
smell? All that insulating layer to hold in the gunge...
*shudders*
In Zig Zag - The Story by James Bruner (www.zzstudios.com),
he describes the characters using full-body fur driers -
imagine the laundry hassle with fur clogging up your
washing machine lint filter too. *sigh* Human based
washing devices just don't seem very well suited to
cleaning furries.
Scrapper, Black Dragon, skin, scales and fur all require
some kind of maintenance - often not compatable with each other!
