Given the nature of the subject matter, I usually try to go to the
printers around 2 or 3am, when there's less of a chance of old ladies
and little kids around. I usually end up hogging about 2 of the
color copiers, and I supply my own paper. Depending on the size of
the order, I can be there anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple
hours. After all the printing is finished, I have to sort and
collate all the work, then polybag them, recount the total order and
check it with Ed's order, and finally, ship it off.
But right now, I'm limited to lifting no more than 5 pounds, so
doing a lot of printing is pretty much out of the question. It's not
like I can have someone else do it, either (since most people work
during the day and need their sleep at night); besides, I'm a bit
picky about how the printing is done.
Ed knows I should be able to get to the task in about a month, so
he said he was cool with that.
On a related note, I spent nearly 8 hours printing, sorting and
collating the stuff for MFM07 (which was a fairly small convention
and I only brought a few copies of the more reecent work); past
conventions would sometimes set me back 3 or 4 thousand dollars for
printing, and anywhere from 3 to 5 days for the actual printing and
sorting. A portion of the stuff printed was Ed's, so I had to
separate the orders and ship his stuff out before actually jumping on
the highway to reach Memphis. I ended up dropping around $1,400.00
for that printing bill. And people wonder why I get pissed when the
artwork shows up online illegally scanned. Hmmm...
