        *Film* runs at 24 frames/second. Video, it depends on where you live;
30 frames/second for anyplace using the NTSC standard, 25 frames/second if
your country uses the PAL or SECAM standards.

        However, most animation does not actually get drawn and shot on a
one-for-one basis like that. Much of what we think of as "high-quality"
animation, like Disney films, is actually shot "on twos", meaning you
expose two frames of film (or video) for each cel drawing, with shooting
"on ones" reserved only for those sequences which *need* particularly
smooth, fluid action. (Lesser-quality animation, such as kidvid cartoons
intended for TV, is often shot "on threes", or even "on fours" if they
think they can get away with it. Hanna-Barbara and Filmation were/are
infamous for this.)

        Still a lot of work, to be sure -- but these days, you can get some
pretty sophisticated software tools for your PC that make it a lot
easier...
