displaying an item you have purchased does not make you a thie.f dan seems to be trying to overcomplicate the issue. so do not become confused.
an item you purchase is yours to display to friends all you like. no infringement of that items copyright occurs until you decide to make photocopys to hand out to friends.
or scan them online and email copies to friends. at that point it is considered theft, under title 17.
dan clearly states that "if so many people are defined as criminals for what is quintessentially going to be human nature, then obviously there is something wrong with
the law".
this statement makes me realise that this person is not here to make sense, but to do exactly what andrew has stated in a jeuvenile antagonistic fashion.
"defend art theft".
the law is not designed to work around human nature. just because something is natural, doesnt mean that it is right or "ok". nature is not interested in justice. it is interested in balance of life and survival of the fittest. this is not mad maxx, we have laws and an order of society. not to drag on and on, but its simple: "just because its natural to shoplift, doesnt mean there is something wrong with the law against shoplifting".
at this point, that highlighted statement alone from dan has caused me to find him... silly O.o

But what about the fans who wish to show off their collections of there favorite artist's be it online, in person etc...etc... etc... I mean surely there has to be a middle ground. If all the artist do is just draw and not post for sale on online sites or at conventions then they make no profit. Also seeing as there is no true advertising office or unit for Anthropomorphic art it leaves it to word of mouth. Case in point I have a lot of Terrie "Little Paw" Smith's work which I do show to friends, family and at sketch meets for people to see her style and then go to her site. <
http://www.rexx. com/~jaguar/> I take nothing for this, other then the joy of spreading the word (so to speak). Does this make me a thief or some sort of Con man. I also do the same for Eric Schwartz and also for Martin Wagner.

The fears, prejudices and limitations that we impose on ourselves must someday pass, because they are not as real as hope, tolerance and possibility. - Gene Roddenberry, Creator of "Star Trek"
