I don't think unplugging your computer will stop anything. I believe if you happen to have said virus, you would not be able to download anti-virus updates or Windows updates. Unplugging your computer from the wall, the internet, or even changing the date will not stop the worm. And as soon as you reconnect, bam!

Check out AVG antivirus for a fee download (do a Google search, I can't remember the actual address). Also try out Malwarebytes at www.malwarebytes.org. Good stuff there, and it's free.

On a related note, even if I happened to get something like this (and so far, frequent system scans have turned up nothing and all my stuff is up-to-date), it wouldn't make a lick of difference to me. When my computer starts acting weird, I just clear out the HD and reinstall the OS. All my programs are store-bought (no pirated software here!), so reinstalling shit is no big deal. And I've never put any personal stuff on my computer (I have no credit cards, bank account, address books or anything which could compromise my identity security). It's a shame so many folks rely on their computers to do everything nowadays, like buying groceries, renting movies, managing accounts, paying bills. Do it the old fashioned way, and you'll avoid all the headaches!
