I'm not going to crack any jokes about Ford (or any American cars in general, really), but the crew would definitely need a vehicle that runs and is dependable. That wasn't a crack, was it?
The van will likely be a white or grey color of some sort. The only difference between this van and a stock one is the hood scoop, ground effects, and the larger wheels/lower stance. And realistically, that wouldn't be too unusual for someone to do to such a vehicle. The stock version comes with a six-cylinder engine, while Caterwaul's has a seriously juiced-up eight-banger.
In their world, they have hybrids and electric/alternate fuel vehicles. In the case of this van, it is a hybrid. The big 454 is the default engine for it, but once at highway speeds, dual electric motors (one at each rear wheel) take over the job of keeping the van in motion. They don't have the traffic issues there that we encounter here, since they seem to understand the consequences of overpopulation (which I think our species still doesn't quite grasp yet).
Yeah, cars are probably my favorite things to draw, and were one of the very first things I started drawing over 30 years ago! I also have a "cut-away" sketch of the van which I'll post later this weekend. It shows the interior layout, engine and front end (minus the entire front clip), roll cage, and other stuff like that.
Caterwaul is indeed geared more towards action/adventure than my earlier work. There is nudity and such in the comic, but it is most certainly NOT wank material. In fact, the only reason there were sex scenes in the original first story was because it had been drawn with the intentions of printing it in Genus.
For the drawings, I actually redrew each picture twice. The first time I would draw the character nude, then I would redraw the nude version in pencil and factor in the clothing (since it will alter some character's appearances, like Crystal). I used a lightbox to draw the final sketches from one preliminary sketch, which was the base model for the nude and clothed versions.

'Cos no one would notice a 'fully sic mate' custom van just loitering in the car park. Oh, hang on, they do that anyway... (with the doof-doof music cranking, usually). Yeah, no one would pay it any attention... >_<

Some of my futuristic vehicles featured 'hydroxy' power (hydrogen and oxygen derived from splitting water, which is not energy efficient as a total system in our current technology levels!). Or whether they'd even bother with reciprocating style engines. Quite amusing that over umpteen years of car technology development, cars are not really any more efficient than they were back in the 1950's. Emissions may be lower, power outputs are increased, but actual fuel efficiency for size of vehicle - not really.

Will be good to see the web site when it is updated and UP! Do you copy/paste the picture then 'redraw' the sketch with clothes or light box the image? I can't imagine you going 'human photo copier' to get so close to the original in all its detail.

They have a few other vehicles for their use, but the only one large enough to handle that many people was the van. Their other large-capacity vehicle is an airship, which would look rather suspicious if it landed in the parking lot of a shopping mall...
