"A sequence of three periods is used to mark an ellipsis or omission in a
sequence of words, especially when forming an incomplete quotation. When the
omission occurs at the end of a sentence, a fourth point is added as the
period of the whole sentence:" (Canadian Oxford, (2ed), 2004)
The Chicago Manual also says to use four at the end of a sentence.
