That actually takes me completely by surprise.  There's nothing wrong with using photo reference so as to become more familiar with a certain subject, but the fact that you're able to put that level of authenticity into the pic without it is pretty darn impressive.

No, acyually I just remembered how 4 kittens I'd rescued as a teenager had curled together and behaved. And the bonding process that occurs as a result of this interaction may very well be why the girls are so close.

The only time a actually use reference material is if it's a specific image someone wants drawn (like a certain car I'm not familiar with, or a family photo or something). I generally try to stay away from using photos as reference, since far too many artists do that.
