This group does not have to be a bustling center of activity. Generally speaking, the group is usually pretty quiet except when some new artwork gets posted. That's simply the way it is, and long periods of inactivity are quite all right.
In the past, off-topic posts were hit-and-miss. Sometimes people would participate in them, and sometimes they would annoy folks. Scrapper and I must use our judgment to determine whether an off-topic post is going to be acceptable. Sometimes our decisions are not the correct ones.
In this case, I made the mistake of approving the original message; I think I will use better judgment in the future.
This group is called "Skunkworks" because it is supposed to focus on the comics and artwork of the Skunkworks characters. That is the purpose of a group name; it is there to underline what the group is supposed to be about.

Yes, there is a lot more to life. Sometimes, people simply don't want to dredge up bad memories, just to relive the anguish over again. I'm also certain that people don't want to be reminded of some things constantly, which is something modern media likes to do incessantly. I often think modern media believes that if there is no drama, then drama must be created.
I don't normally share my views on this sort of thing because I don't think many folks would understand or agree with my stance on such events. But since you want to know what people feel about this, I'll gladly share...
People have been killing, maiming and torturing others ever since we crawled out of the swamps, whether it is based upon one's beliefs, appearance, language, ancestry, whatever. Some people seem to think we can all get along as one big, happy family. That would be great if we could, but it will sadly never happen. For whatever reason, our species has some fucked-up built-in drive to destroy anyone or anything that is different from ourselves. It has always been this way. It will always BE this way. Some people make the effort to rise above those inbred programs, but the vast majority of people don't think that deeply about it.
Every generation has had horrible things happen during its heyday, and each one, at that time, becomes a pivotal event. Alas, as new generations come along, the older events are forgotten, or relegated to holiday reminders on a calendar. It is sad, and it is cold, but that is what happens.
When was the last time you saw people rally together for the Alamo? What about Pearl Harbor? Most people today wouldn't even know what December 7th was. What about V-E Day? Or V-J Day? These were enormous events at the time of their occurrence, but as that generation ages and dies off, so too does the influence and importance of the event that changed their lives. I can guarantee our great grandchildren will have little memory of what happened on September 11th in New York.
September 11th was a bad day for America, but I'm fairly certain worse things happen all over the world that we Americans never hear about. This country HAS become full of itself lately, and quite frankly I find it disturbing and shameful. Make no mistake, I love my country. But I am not the sort of person to wallow in the past and feel sorry for myself because certain events happened which I could not change or affect.
Call me cold, or call me indifferent. What happened in September of 2001 was horrible, and I really hope nothing like that ever happens to anyone ever again. But don't be surprised if it does. After all, this sort of shit has been going on for thousands of years.
Now then, this group is about the Skunkworks stuff. As such, we're going to try to keep the discussions ON TOPIC from this point on. I am not one to advise others on how to run or maintain their own groups, but since the theme of this group is clearly spelled out in the group name, I think it's best we adhere to that theme. THAT is why we usually don't have random discussions about whatever.
