Yeah, there are some recurring villains. In the first story, when the group is essentially hired by the cops to apprehend an "escaped" convict, it's learned that there were some cops and other authority figures who were involved in aiding the convict. That results in increased pressure from certain authority groups, as they certainly don't want someone who technically operates outside the law to cause any problems for their activities.
The second story involves the DABRD (the Department of Advanced Biological Research and Development), which was the agency behind the Project Orange Crate experiments (resulting in the offspring of their original test subjects getting some very unusual abilities). Caterwaul is initially hired to retrieve the kids who escaped from the DABRD compound in Georgia, but after some fact-checking on the agency, Caterwaul ends up rescuing the kids from the agency. This puts Caterwaul on the radar screen of that agency, and they end up crossing paths several more times. Things get even more dangerous for Caterwaul when the agency ends up sending a group of "recovered test subjects" after them (these are other kids who were not gathered together at the time the original Lot 6 group was kidnapped).
The third story involves several of the folks from the Skunkworks studio, as they are brought into the story when Valencia discovers a wounded alien in her pool shed. This turns out to be Onika, and the Caterwaul group is brought in since a few of the members are friends of Valencia, and she doesn't know what to do with the little alien. Treska ends up showing up, there's a conflict between her and Caterwaul, and eventually the group is brought to Onika's home world to help fight an invading species (which is what Onika was fleeing from initially before she was transported to Val's garden). So there's some alternate-reality shit going on with that story, since Onika, Treska, and the others of her world do not live in the same realm of existence of Caterwaul. Treska does end up aiding the Caterwaul group from time to time with certain jobs after awhile.
The fourth story reintroduces Penance, who has been on the Caterwaul world for about 10 years by this point. (This is why I'm going to have her story come out first, as it explains the whole world concept at ground level). She makes a few cameos from time to time as well, even in the following (fifth) story.
