Giving up a fan fic might seem like a good idea, but I'd recommend thinking about it a little more. It was Jim that roped me into the fandom many (many!) years ago with his art, and to be honest I can think of no better way to pay homage to him and his legacy than fan fics, fan art, etc;. Though I do agree with Scrapper that as long as proper credit is given to Jim for his characters and art, all is good. Staying true to his characters and art and being clear about what belongs to who aside, it is a testament to Jim's efforts to entertain all of us by giving a little something back. It helps fill the vacancy Jim's passing has left. Perhaps when I'm done with my own obligations I might have to take a whack at my own fan fic. I did the same for Lily when she died last year and helped finish up a couple of her works. It was not only a joy to do, it was an honor.
I'd be interested to hear from others on this subject.
