TL;DR - If you are over JMH's work, then go away. If you want to participate, you are most welcome.

You can use JIm's work the same as people always have, whether just a fap art or of inspiration of the levels that you may hope to achieve with your own artwork.

And now you don't think his creations are worth preserving???

How on earth did you come up with _that_ notion? Disney would not exist if what you propose was so... "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants"

Just because his name is not attributed to it, does not mean it is not similar, or done in the style of. I suspect you are not musically learned, else you wouldn't make that comment.

Fan art is about honouring the great work done by the artist, hence having fans, whom are so inspired to create artwork utilising elements of the original creator. Parody art is a similar idea.
Older generations will look at your linked "current" popular and go "who???"; as will anyone coming after you. Classic work - that which stands the test of time - will always be the most popular. Who has not seen a parody of Michaelangelo's "The Creation of Adam"? So you're telling me, because this artist is dead, we should just ignore him???
If you can not derive inspiration from someone's work, then that is your interpretational limitation. If you require 'popular' to justify your tastes, then you are just suffering propaganda - something that was the antithesis of JMH and what he chose to do. If are no longer interested in the group, you are not forced to participate, but don't whinge about it - make your own decision.
I was aware the anniversary was coming, but I don't get on the PC as often as I used to when I first joined this group back on the 28th November 2001 (exactly two months after it was created), so was not able to post a reminder.
But ask yourself - a year has gone - what have you done? Have you drawn or posted anything? Has JMH inspired you to do anything? I've certainly thought about it, but my drawing has been for work in recent history and I still try to check the group and maintain a flow and respond to inquiries, as I always have done.
The pillow covers and similar are still in process (as per others' posts), so JMH is certainly not out of mind. Hopefully the consolidated cartoon book will come to fruition - I'm looking forward to that. I do plan another fan art - it was JMH who got me into drawing! But real life does tend to take precedence over grouping.
Scrapper, Black Dragon, still manning the drawbridge to JMH's fantastic realm.
