TL;DR - furry fandom is fully of angsty teens; don't worry, you'll grow out of it and move on.

Let's face it, when this group was started, many of us were in our 20's; we're in our 40's (or more) these days, so one would hope you'd grown up, developed other interests (as opposed to just porn), had relationships, jobs, become a millionaire, learnt new skills, met new friends, had a family, along with old or no longer interesting things and people falling out of the picture.
>Don't forget that new blood is always coming into furry fandom. And people have been interested in furries in one form or another throughout human history. Furry fandom won't go away.

I largely quit the fandom after running my second major furmeet/ mini convention. I found the fandom was full of angsty teens, who were horny and felt like misfits in society and liked animals. I realised that I needed to move forward (being in my 30's at the time!) and that hanging around with dysfunctional 16 year olds wasn't going to get me ahead in life. I made the conscious choice to step back and go find inspiring and capable peers, as opposed to feeling 'big fish, small pond' due to being one of the few people who had a job, car, house, etc. You can enjoy furry art; I kept drawing until the fanzine I submitted to ceased. A few of my friends' interests also changed, so I stopped seeing them regularly and so I largely stopped drawing, as it didn't serve a purpose any more.
New people came into the fandom to replace those who had lost interest, but they were more 'angsty teens' who wanted porn and someone to feel sorry for them. You generally grow out of the fandom - many of the 'original' funny-animal furry artists are in their 50's now. Did you really think you'd still be into furry porn after passing the 'half-way mark'? Even JMH started to try and develop the back-stories and history of the girls and wanting to try and move into the other characters that are not porn based (Caterwaul, for example). I suspect JMH secretly may have liked to have had his own family, but knew it wouldn't work allowing his health (and that he'd had the snip), hence was compensating by creating the histories for the skunk sisters trio. I had suggested he leave the skunkworks aspect as just porn and develop other characters, but he obviously felt a dose of realism was needed, hence the folios were not the 'real' sisters.
New artists often feel porn is a way of getting attention. Angsty teens like the porn, so new artists generate a following, hence ridiculous things like Sonic the Hedgehog porn. After a while the artists usually either don't develop and give up (most common) or start realising their work is good enough to run on its own without the porn element. I have a print drawn by JMH of a wolf - not anthro, just a wolf. I gave away most of my furry art stuff to a fellow collector (who is in his 50's!), including some JMH folios as they no longer appeal, but I kept the wolf picture and I like it.

The aliens, after first contact, will realise making humans extinct and leaving the planet to recover will be a good move... >_<
