Will wonders never cease.
Reinstalled the Windows XP (SP3) disc included with the new system, and that fixed the restart problem. I was able to reinstall the network card and had to find a back way to put the network key into the system to get back on the wireless network. Actually surprised myself with that one. Reinstalled the new scanner and the software, as well as Photoshop and some extra fonts. Seems a bunch of drivers were not included with the OS reinstall, so I had to track down the motherboard info and find the appropriate drivers. I've got those fixed now, and can once again enjoy SOUND.
Since I was able to get both of these systems repaired and back online without any assistance from my brother, you folks may want to prepare for either Armageddon or the Second Coming, because there's just no way this shit couldn't played out this well otherwise.
