Already did that. most of the files &ALL of the pictures (including MOST fur on the drive) are POOF! or worse scrambled so bad their totally trashed! have written to the drive in question, so there is NO FURTHER CHANCE OF RECOVERY!

Don't throw that hard drive away yet! It may be possible to use recovery software to retrieve that data, even if the home sector is destroyed. In fact, once you recover the data, you may be able to reformat the drive and resume use, but that depends on whether or not there's any physical damage from your accident.
