Hello Scrapper
Alas, I was too late to the party and so I don't know how much weight my opinion carries.
However, I don't think that the apparent lack of activity is solely due to lack of interest.
Yahoo Groups over all have been in decline for a long while now. I’m a member of several but most have been silent for a long time now. The only one I regularly get message from are the ones for Omaha the Cat Dancer, Sabrina Online and of course this one, and even then only sporadically and infrequently.
My guess is that people have moved on to newer platforms, but the interest is still there. Again, neither Omaha nor Sabrina are “over”, but their fans communicate through other means.
I for one only really stay connected in hopes of hearing about a final publishing run of Hardimans works.. As for his works, to be honest, I’ve found far more of his art on other sites than on this group. In this way, Hardimans legacy lives on far beyond this group.
To be blunt, Yahoo Groups just don’t offer much that other platforms can’t do better. It’s pretty obvious to me that the big pull for this group was Hardiman himself and once he departed, interest quickly vanned. I saw something similar with the Mousey Love Girls.
The only thing worth preserving now are the logs of messages. In some ways, these are a journal of Hardimans life and his interactions with his fans, and it’d be sad to see it go to waste. But at the same time, at least to me, this feels very personal and I don’t know how I’d feel about reading them for my own entertainment. I will however try to find a way to preserve these logs, and I’d welcome any suggestions on how to do it. I’m not very clever in this regard.
Either way, it seems Yahoo groups have run their course, at least in their current form. I have accounts on other sites, such as SoFurry and InkBunny, and will look into making memorial groups for Hardimans fans.
For what it’s worth, I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to you Scrapper. You’ve obviously taken your custodianship of this group very seriously. I hope you don’t see these changes as a personal failing.
In fact, may I ask if you have any other accounts on any other sites?
In fact, may a suggest as the final act of this group, that we all compile our contact information so we might find each other elsewhere? Perhaps we can turn this cessation into a migration.
Either way, thank you all and especially you, Scrapper.
